Sleep and death, the dusky eagles
The dark eagles, sleep and death,
Around this head swoop all night long;
Rustle all night around my head:
Eternity’s icy wave
The golden statue of man
Would swallow the golden image
Is swallowed by the icy comber
Of man; against horrible reefs
Of eternity. On the frightening reef
His purple body is shattered.
The purple remains go to pieces,
And the dark voice laments
And the dark voice mourns
Over the sea.
Over the sea.
Sister of stormy sadness,
Sister in my wild despair
Look a timid dinghy goes down
Look, a precarious skiff is sinking
Under stars,
Under the stars,
The silent face of the night.
The face of night whose voice is fading.
